The roller-coaster experience of writing a book

Writing a book has to be like riding a roller-coaster – the anticipatory thrill of writing an actual book, the terror of thinking you don’t actually have anything to write about, the euphoria of reading the finished product and realizing it isn’t too bad. And it definitely helps to have two generous, clever and fun co-authors in the form of Cait Lamberton and Tom Wein to share the thrilling journey with!

I was initially drawn to this idea of “dignity”- the fact that all human beings have worth simply by virtue of being a human – because of its simplicity and iron-clad logic. Yet it is so often violated, even by gold-standard firms (you can read about my embarrassing iPhone story in the early part of the book). But how do we translate a concept as lofty as “dignity” into something actionable, particularly for profit-maximizing businesses? We hope we have done a good enough job with a simple framework outlining the pillars of dignity, applied across the customer journey, with several examples.

A book is just the beginning however, – importantly, a big goal of writing this was to get YOUR thoughts, anecdotes, data and feedback on the concept of dignity, whether you deal with customers or employees, whether you work in a for-profit or a non-profit organization. So do read the book (pre-order now, launch June 4) and let us know!
